Liz Kendall has been named as Labour's new shadow work and pensions secretary following a reshuffle of the shadow cabinet by Labour leader Keir Starmer yesterday (4 September).
Kendall - the member of parliament for Leicester West since 2010 - had previously been shadow minister for social care, a role she had held since 2020.
She had previously been shadow junior health minister and then shadow minister for care and older people, in which role she was an attending member of the shadow cabinet, under the leadership of Ed Miliband between 2010 and 2015.
Kendall stood as a successor to Ed Miliband for the Labour party leadership - coming fourth in the election.
Prior to becoming an MP, Kendall held a variety of roles at organisations including the Institute for Public Policy Research, the Maternity Alliance and the Ambulance Services Network; and also acted as special adviser to Harriet Harman and Patricia Hewitt.
Kendall takes over the work and pensions brief from Jonathan Ashworth, the MP for Leicester South who was demoted in the reshuffle to become shadow paymaster general in the Cabinet Office.
Matt Rodda, MP for Reading East, remains as shadow pensions minister.
