ATP welcomes climate change engagement

DENMARK - ATP has welcomed research which finds Nordic companies are becoming increasingly aware of climate change.

A report by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which ATP is a member of, found Nordic companies are actively trying to reduce their climate risk exposure, with 80% of large firms setting emission reduction targets.

Furthermore, 62% of respondents are engaging directly with policymakers to tackle climate issues and three out of four major Danish companies now report on climate change. CDP confirmed a 73% response rate to the survey, up 5% from 2009, while the overall response rate in the region was 66%.

Ole Beier Sørensen, manager at ATP said: "Given the economic crisis, one would expect less focus on CO2 emissions, energy efficiency and climate-related risks. On the contrary, there are clear indications that focus on climate issues are high on the agenda for most large companies in the Nordic region, as companies now increasingly consider climate focus as an important source of competitive advantage."

"Most large firms in the Nordic region consider themselves well placed to take advantage of the opportunities posed by the need to reduce carbon emissions globally," said the CDP.
